“Now and then we had a hope that if we lived and were good, God would permit us to be pirates.” ― Mark Twain, Life on the Mississippi

The great Mississippi River is so important to the history and culture of our region. When steamboats arrived in the early 19th century St. Louis became a busy port or trade center. A young Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) would later become a steamboat pilot and then would go on to romanticize that era in his famous writings. Join us in the Mississippi Room and take a look into our nautical past. As you make yourself comfortable in this legendary room, you’ll remember all the stories your grandfathers told you.
